APRIL STRONGARONE, LCSW
Providing LGBTQIA+ online therapy across California and in-person services in the Davis, Woodland, and Sacramento areas.
ABOUT
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (CA # 29016) and have been providing mental health services in the East Bay and Northern California since 2003. In addition to my private psychotherapy practice I have provided therapy to individuals and families in various community based, non-profit agencies such as Westcoast Children's Clinic, Fred Finch Youth Center, and Hamilton Family Center. In addition to providing therapy, I also provide individual and group supervision to licensed and unlicensed therapists.
In 2005 I earned my Masters in Clinical Social Work from New York University. My focus of studies was on providing therapeutic support to youth and adults with mental illness and within the LGBTQIA+ populations.
I have since broadened my experience and expertise to include people struggling with relationships, life transitions, self-esteem, anxiety, depression, early attachment disruptions, and have developed a specialization serving individuals experiencing crisis and complex trauma. Through my work at Westcoast Children's Clinic and Fred Finch Youth Center I gained significant experience working with children and families in the foster care system and with complex trauma. I also have a special interest in providing support to families and individuals needing support around gender, sexuality, and gender transition. I especially love working with teens and young adults and the families that surround them.
I have been trained psychodynamically with a special focus on understanding the person in context (exploring the various systems and social forces that impact personal struggles) and providing culturally competent care. I work from a relational perspective, utilizing interventions that are clinically appropriate for my clients. That just means we will build a relationship and that relationship will help us better understand you and what you need. We will work together to gain an understanding of how our therapeutic relationship can help you better cope and resolve your struggles. This is a collaborative process and I value your experience and feedback.
